You have been hired as
a webmaster. Following step-by-step instructions, learn
how to use Microsoft Publisher to analyze, plan, build, and
upload a web page. |
Your students can
build their own websites!
TechnoWeb simulates a business model and students
play the role of webmasters. Detailed lesson
plans guide the students through the process of
webpage design including:
- researched content
- WordArt title
- pictures
- hyperlinks
- animated clip art
The project is easily adaptable to
any topic chosen by the individual student or to a curriculum topic
chosen by the teacher. A planner is included to guide students in
choosing a topic.
WRITE A BUSINESS PROPOSAL
In the TechnoWeb technology
project, students begin by learning how to use the tools in
Microsoft Publisher. They apply this knowledge by creating a
business card for their web building business and by writing a
proposal for the web site.
Students are also guided through
the critical thinking process. Before designing their own page, they
view a sample web site. They analyze the page and critically
evaluate its effectiveness using a rating scale. They score the
navigation, appearance, and content of the page. At this point, the
students are well prepared for planning their own design.
SEARCH THE INTERNET FOR RESOURCES
Next,
students look for pictures and sites related to their topic
on the Internet. They complete activities to learn
strategies and tips to make their searches more efficient
and successful.
WEB
DESIGN
With the
planning and organizing finished, students follow step-by-step
instructions to create a graphic title, add animated clip art, write
interesting information in text boxes, insert pictures, and make
hyperlinks to related sites on the Internet.
A checklist is provided for both
the student designer and a peer to complete, to ensure the page is
carefully edited and ready for uploading to the Internet.
SHARE, EVALUATE AND CELEBRATE
Detailed
directions are given for uploading the student sites to a free web
hosting service.
Students use a rating scale to assess their own and their peers' completed
projects, giving them the opportunity for reflection and self
evaluation. Also provided is a comprehensive rubric for the teacher
to grade each student's web page.
Suggestions for
sharing and celebrating the final projects with other classes and
parents are included.
