Become an
Egyptologist. Discover the identity of an
Egyptian mummy by studying artifacts in a Microsoft
Access database. |
This
technology project contains Microsoft Access lesson plans
that make viewing, adding, and filtering records in a
database FUN and EASY.
Become
Egyptologists
Are
you looking for a fun way to teach FACTS about
Ancient Egypt? Instead of reading about Egyptian
times in a book, why not take a virtual field trip?
In TechnoMummy the fun
begins when a secret tomb has been discovered in the Valley of the
Kings. As Egyptologists, students have been called to the site to
help identify the mummy.
Write a
Personal Diary Entry about Egypt
Using the Internet and an Egyptian
fact sheet, students learn about Egypt. Their virtual trip through
Egypt to the Valley of the Kings has students sail down the Nile
River, eat Egyptian food, and take a rest at the foot of a famous
temple.
The events are
recorded in their personal diary using Microsoft Word. This activity offers students an
introduction to ancient Egyptian life and beliefs.
Helpful resources such as Egyptian
fact sheets, bookmarked websites, and hieroglyph fonts make this
activity easy for teachers and fun for students.
Students use a Microsoft Word template to record facts and paste
pictures from the Internet into the diary.

DIARY ENTRY WITH RECORDED FACTS,
PICTURES, AND HIEROGLYPHS
Study Ancient Egyptian Artifacts
Once at the tomb, students study
the Ancient Egyptian artifacts found at the site. The artifacts are
stored in a Microsoft Access database. As they learn how to view and
filter through the records,
students discover about Egyptian life, clothing, tools, values, and
beliefs.

STUDY ARTIFACTS TO LEARN ABOUT
ANCIENT EGYPTIAN LIFE
Students learn how to filter the
records to answer questions:
- How did Ancient Egyptians
dress?
- What types of dishes did
Ancient Egyptians have?
- What are canopic jars?
- Who are some ancient gods or
goddesses?
With TechnoKids
Technology Projects, instead of preparing database lesson plans
for computer class, you can spend your time with
students having fun in the computer lab completing
meaningful activities.
Paint an Egyptian Artifact: Add
the Record to a Database
Next, students use Microsoft Paint
to draw an Egyptian artifact that is a "new discovery" from the
tomb. The artifact is added to the TechnoMummy database. Afterwards,
students study the new discoveries in the database and answer
questions about the relics.
Who is the Mummy?
Can students
discover the identity of the mummy? Students use the artifacts in the
Microsoft Access database to discover the identity of the mummy.
Using the artifacts, they make conclusions about the mummy's:
- identity
- rank or class
- interests
- beliefs
They explain their findings in a
Microsoft Word diary entry.
