TECHNOEXPLORER TECHNOLOGY PROJECT

Internet Lesson Plans

Teacher Guide - Student Workbook - Resource Files

Are your students using the Internet? Use the lesson plans in TechnoExplorer to have your students use the Internet safely and effectively.

About the Adventure

Go on an Internet adventure. Sail on the ship Internet Explorer to discover the wonders of the World Wide Web, email, and chat.

Students learn about the Internet by taking part in a fun adventure:

TechnoBit and TechnoByte were surfing the Internet finding all kinds of cool websites. They were having so much fun clicking around, that they are now lost in Cyberspace. Students must voyage through the Internet on their ship "Explorer" to find the missing Internet explorers.

Students find the missing Internet explorers by searching the Internet. Posing as TechnoBit and TechnoByte, the teacher sends emails to the students giving them hints for their search. The text for the emails is supplied in the TechnoExplorer teacher guide. Eventually the Internet explorers are found on their "home page". The home page is included with the TechnoExplorer technology project. It includes a variety of fun and educational links.

Technology Skills Taught in a Meaningful Context

Why should you teach your students how to email, browse the internet or chat online? Perhaps they even already know some of these skills. The main emphasis of TechnoExplorer is on safety. In each session, students are given tips about possible hazards and are required to think critically.

TechnoKids' project based learning gives the students a meaningful frame of reference. In TechnoExplorer, essential skills and knowledge are not taught in isolation and can therefore be connected to other experiences on the Internet, whether at school, at home, or in any situation. What makes TechnoExplorer such a great teaching tool is that, while learning these valuable skills, the students are also having fun!
