Are you looking for an exciting
new way to have your students write a research paper?
In this technology project, students write a newspaper article about a famous landmark using
Microsoft Word Lesson Plans published by TechnoKids Inc. This
landmark could be a local treasure, one of the Seven Wonders of the
World, or a topic integrated into curriculum.
In TechnoCorrespondent, students
become correspondents who travel to a distant location to report
about a famous landmark. In this technology project, students
research facts and then use them to write an article that will
entice travelers to visit the place.
Fun and Educational Microsoft
Word Lesson Plans
To start, students are introduced
to newspaper terminology. Once familiar with the parts of an
article, they edit a story about the Blarney Stone by formatting the
flag, dateline, byline, headline, lead, and facts using various word
processing techniques.
Afterwards, students select a
landmark to research. Using the Internet, they gather facts about the
structure and its construction. Students learn how to cite the
source of information.
Next, students use the Internet to
gather pictures of the famous landmark and a map of its location.
Later, digital photos are taken of students. These photos are then
edited with Microsoft Paint to place the correspondents on the
scene.
Using a template, students write an
article about the landmark. Pictures are added with captions
describing the images. Upon completion, the article is edited to
correct spelling and grammar, as well as improve the layout. The article is shared with family and friends.
