Join the TechnoCop Police
Academy. Have fun solving silly crimes such as the Case of
the Cookie Crook and the Blank Screen Bandit. |
In this technology project,
students become TechnoCops. After some basic training, the recruits
join the force and receive their badge. They then add themselves to
the TechnoCop database as fellow officers. Once on the force, the
new recruits begin to solve various cases. Can the crooks be brought
to justice?
When you order TechnoCop, you will
receive:
- teacher guide
- student workbook
- detailed lesson plans
- review questions
- skill reviews
- extension activities
- templates
- sample files
- parent letter
- certificate
- TechnoCop database
- badge presentation
|
Make a Badge
| All TechnoCops need a
badge! Students watch a presentation about real police
badges that is included with the technology project.
Once familiar with the
appearance and content of a badge, students follow detailed
instructions to create their own using simple shapes and
WordArt in Microsoft Word. |
 |
Add a Record to a Database
Students use the TechnoCop
database, provided with the technology project to learn database
skills. To begin, they add a record of their employment as a new
recruit. They add their name, badge
number, department, rank, and photograph to the record. Afterwards,
students follow detailed instructions to view the other police
officers on the force.

Filter Records to Narrow Down
the Suspects
Students learn how to narrow down a
list of possible suspects, by using Filter By Form to sort the
records in the TechnoCop database. By filtering records they are
able to catch the crook.
Sample Mystery:
OH NO! All the letter "A" keys on
the keyboard are gone! Someone has taken them and left "Z" keys in
their place. Everyone is very upset, especially little Amanda. She
has three a's in her name. She has to type her name like this, "Zmzndz".
Her name sounds like a buzzing bee! Follow the clues to solve the
case!
Clue 1: The janitor saw someone
in the computer lab late last night. This person had grey hair.
Clue 2: The security camera got
a glimpse of the crook on tape. The crook had blue eyes.
Clue 3: A footprint was found
outside the school. It shows the crook walked with a limp.

Sample record in the TechnoCop
database.
Make a Wanted Poster
Students solve the Case of the
Cookie Crook. Following detailed instructions, they design a Wanted
poster with information about the suspect and crime. Students apply
their knowledge of shapes and WordArt to create an eye-catching
public notice that will be sure to bring the crook to justice!

Sample wanted poster.
Fun Extension Activities
The TechnoCop technology project
includes many fun extension activities that challenge students. Activities include:
- Play it Safe: Circle
the pictures of children being safe from a list of activities.
- Make a Police Hat:
Decorate a police hat using Microsoft Word. Cut out the
hat. Dress like a police officer.
- Who Did It: Read a
simple mystery story to find out who stole Mike's new red
ball. Was it Katie, Tom, or Joe?
