On this site you will find facts about Dian Fossey and the start of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Watching gorillas for thousands of hours helped the gorilla groups to trust Dr. Fossey. She learned so much about their actions. When poachers attacked and killed a young male named "Digit", she reacted by starting a fight against gorilla poaching. National Geographic helped spread her story. They put her picture on the cover of their magazine. They also wrote an article and included many more photos. Money was raised from around the world, allowing Dr. Fossey to start the Digit Fund (which was later renamed the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in 1992). She devoted the rest of her life to the protection of gorillas. To read more about Dian, please click the links on the left.
