Integrate the Internet into Curriculum

Intro to Internet Icon Educators are introduced to the Internet including the World Wide Web, search engines, email, and chat. They explore issues related to student Internet use such as online safety, cyberbullying, and copyright.

Session 1 Introduction to the Internet

Educators develop a basic understanding about the Internet. To start, they learn the importance of a network and consider how LANS, MANS, and WANS are beneficial to sharing information and communication. Next, educators review a list of uses for the Internet in education and they set goals for using it in their practice.
Afterwards, educators examine key events in Internet history and study the technologies used to transfer information through the Internet. To foster an understanding of the Internet and cultivate a basic understanding of the resources available educators go online to complete simple tasks.

Session 2 About Internet Explorer

In this session, educators explore the Internet using a web browser. To start they learn about the World Wide Web, URLs, hyperlinks, and the web browser tools that help them to navigate the Internet efficiently. They explore a variety of Internet favorites and find out how bookmarks are a quick and easy way to link to popular web pages. Finally, educators study the History feature of the web browser to discover a method of tracking or searching previously viewed sites.


Session 3 About Search Engines

In the Introduction to the Internet technology project, educators learn how to locate information efficiently on the Internet. To start, they explore features of a search engine that make it easy to access web pages, images, videos, maps, and news articles. Next, educators acquire strategies to obtain information quickly. Once familiar with how to find resources on the Internet, educators bookmark websites and organize the list of Favorites in a folder.

Session 4 Introduction to Email

Educators discover the ease, benefits, and time saving features of email. They follow detailed instructions to compose, send, read, reply, forward, and delete email messages. In addition, they learn how to keep their contacts in an address book, create mailing lists, set up an automatic signature, and attach files to an email.
