Kindergarten Computer Lesson Plans

TechnoShapes Icon Kindergarten students use Kid Pix Deluxe 4 to celebrate the colors of the rainbow. They learn color names and shades as they produce a variety of beautiful artwork.

Session 1 Take the Color Challenge

The project TechnoColors begins with a Color Challenge. Using the Color Cards which are provided with the project resources, primary students sort the objects on each card according to color. Next, students complete a worksheet by coloring objects specific colors. Afterwards, they open the program Kid Pix Deluxe 4 and use the Drawing tools to follow instructions to draw a red apple, blue ball, yellow sun, and orange snake.

Session 2 Shades of Color

The next session introduces the concept of shading. Children use the Color and Shading Cards to see how one color can appear lighter or darker. Afterwards, they view colorful pictures, in the Color and Art resource, to find the light and dark colors.

On the computer, students use Kid Pix Deluxe 4 to explore the Chalk, Crayon, and Marker tools. They change the tool color and thickness to draw a picture using shades of the same color.


Session 3 Feeling Color

Students investigate the feelings associated with colors. To start, students view three sets of pictures including a circus, birthday, and bedtime scene, in the Feelings and Color resource. One set of pictures uses red, orange, and yellow to create the feeling of excitement. The other set uses blue, purple, and green to create a calm feeling. Students discuss how color changes the mood.

On the computer, students sign in to Kid Pix Deluxe 4 and paint a picture using particular colors to express their feelings.

Session 4 A Colorful Day

To gain an understanding of the connection between color and the world around them, students view the Sky Photo Album.

They study the photographs of the sky to notice how the color changes when it is sunrise or sunset, or sunny or stormy.

Afterwards, students open Kid Pix Deluxe 4 to experiment with the Fill Bucket and Paint tools. These tools are then used to paint the sky.

Session 5 Colorful Music

kindergarten computer lesson plans Included in the project resources are sound files. When played in Windows Media Player, students see a moving image that changes with the music. In this way, children make a connection between sound and color.

Using a microphone and the Hands-Free Painting option in Kid Pix Deluxe 4, students use their voices to paint. Afterwards, they use the Mouse Move option to create a painting as they speak, sing, or play music into the microphone. kindergarten students and computers

Session 6 Color Comes to Life

In the last session, students learn to add backgrounds, stickers, animation, and sound to a picture.

They choose a favorite color and apply all the skills they have acquired to produce a final artistic masterpiece.
