Elementary Health Lesson Plans

TechnoFit Icon Primary students join the TechnoFit Club to take the Be Fit Challenge. They learn about health and nutrition as they create a membership card, poster, menu, and certificate in Microsoft Publisher.

Session 1 Join the TechnoFit Club

To start, elementary students join the TechnoFit Club (TFC). The TFC’s motto is "Eat Right, Be Fit, Live Well!" To become a member, students learn about being healthy by watching "The Be Fit Challenge" video, provided with the TechnoFit resources.

Once students are familiar with the importance of diet and exercise, they are create a membership card using MS Publisher. This card includes their name, clip art, and other vital information that gains them admittance to this elite club. Elementary Health Lesson Plans - Students watch a video to learn about healthy living and fitness.

Session 2 Eat Right!

Students learn about the importance of a balanced diet as they watch the Eat Right video and answer follow up questions.

TechnoFit includes Food Cards, that teachers can use to have students categorize food items into groups. Sorting the provided Food Cards into the basic food groups provides a fun activity to consolidate the concept. The second publication students create is a Be Fit Food Guide.

Skills from the previous session, such as making a text box, designing WordArt, and adding clip art are practiced and applied to produce the guide.

Session 3 Be Fit!

Next, students learn about the importance of exercise. To help TechnoFit Club members "be fit", they will make a poster showing all the things they do to stay active.

Elementary Health Lesson Plans - Students use Microsoft Publisher to create a poster about healthy living choices.

In preparation, students complete a critical thinking exercise. They view sample posters and identify what makes a poster effective in communicating a message.

This poster is a great way for students to show others how to live healthy. Desktop publishing skills learned in the first two sessions are reviewed, and new skills are introduced.

Session 4 Be Fit Challenge Event Menu

Students help to plan an upcoming event: the "Be Fit Challenge." They must plan the kind of food people will eat. Using MS Publisher, a healthy menu is designed including food from all the food groups.

Elementary Health Lesson Plans - Integrate technology and health using fun activities with Microsoft Publisher.
