Animal Lesson Plans for Primary Students

TechnoAnimal Icon Create a multimedia report about an animal using step by step PowerPoint lesson plans. Students research an animal and design slides about habitat, appearance, food, young, and threats.

Session 1 Animal Facts

The animal lesson plans in TechnoAnimal integrate computer skills with Science as students learn about:

  • Life Cycles and Systems
  • Classification
  • Adaptation
  • Environment
  • Endangered Species
Animal Lesson Plans and PowerPoint - Primary students learn how to make a slide show featuring an endangered species.

To start, students are introduced to animal classes by viewing colorful examples and reading characteristics that define each class. They complete a worksheet to confirm their understanding.

Animal Lesson Plans for Elementary Students - Workbook Reptile Fact Sheet. Animal Lesson Plans for Elementary Students - Workbook Mammal Fact Sheet. Animal Lesson Plans for Elementary Students - Workbook Insect Fact Sheet.

Next, students study a completed slide show, provided with the TechnoAnimal resources, about polar bears and answer questions about the multimedia report.

Primary students begin preparation for their own animal report. Using the provided Animal Fact Sheets, students complete a research planner that organizes facts such as food, appearance, and habitat. Students can choose from a range of animals including lion, penguin, and whales. Detailed lesson plans are also included to explain how to use the Internet to save a picture of the animal and a map of where they live.

To include an original picture of the animal in the PowerPoint presentation, students learn how to use Microsoft Paint. After being introduced to the program and its tools, students draw a picture of the animal. Questions included with the animal lesson plans, encourage primary students to think critically about the habitat and to create an accurate representation of the creature.

Session 3 Animal Habitat

All preparation is now complete and students have gathered all the resources needed to start the PowerPoint presentation. Detailed lesson plans designed for beginners, explain how to create a Title slide and Habitat slide using simple language:

  • choose a slide layout
  • add text
  • apply a design theme
  • insert a saved map
  • insert a saved picture
  • resize a picture

Testimonials

Our Grade 2 class just completed the TechnoAnimal unit. As a teacher, I truly appreciated the step-by-step instructions on how to use PowerPoint. The kids loved the unit. They were so excited to learn how to make a PowerPoint presentation and were very pleased to show their work to their parents. I received great feedback from the parents on how impressed they were on their child’s computer progress. Great unit! Thank you, TechnoKids!
