Endangered Species Lesson Plans

TechnoReport Icon Raise environmental awareness! Write a research report in Microsoft Word about an endangered species. Use a project based learning approach to integrate science with technology curriculum.

Session 1 Giant Panda Report

The lesson plans in TechnoReport have students prepare to write a report on an endangered species. To begin, they learn about wildlife at risk of extinction.

Afterwards, students examine Microsoft Word to become familiar with how to perform basic word processing tasks. They apply this knowledge to edit a report on the Giant Panda, an animal who is at risk of extinction.
Edit a report in Microsoft Word to learn basic word processing skills.

Session 2 Research the Facts

Students assume the role of a writer for the environment newsletter “Friends of the Planet.”

Using the Internet and bookmarked sites provided with the TechnoReport project, students choose a species and gather facts about the animal:

  • appearance
  • habitat
  • population
  • family
  • food
  • threats
  • help
  • interesting facts
  • sources

Session 3 Collect Pictures

A newsletter needs illustrations to entice the reader’s interest. Students learn how to save pictures from the Internet to use in their report. Focus is placed on respecting copyright laws when using electronic sources.

Session 4 Write the Report

A critical part of the research process is changing information into one’s own words. Students first practice this important skill by editing a sample report about the Pallid Bat, provided with the resources. Afterwards, they apply their new word processing skills to reword facts from their own research. The endangered species lesson plans in TechnoReport, have students write a report about an animal using Microsoft Word.
