Student Workbook

About TechnoKids Student Workbooks

Student workbooks contain step by step instructions about how to use the computer to complete the assignment. In addition, there are worksheets with fill-in-the-blank, short answer, and multiple choice questions, as well as self-evaluation checklists, planning sheets, and information about program tools and terminology.

Student workbooks are designed so that students can work independently to complete lesson activities. The workbook is in pdf format. The use of student workbooks is optional.

Recommendations about the Student Workbooks

There is a lot of flexibility in how student workbooks are implemented. Below are some possibilities:

  • Personal Notebook: The students keep the workbooks and write in them.
  • Digital Resource: The workbooks are viewed digitally. Students follow the on-screen instructions. They write the answers to worksheet questions into a Microsoft Word document.
  • Shared Book: The student workbooks are placed in a duo tang and are kept in the lab. They are distributed to students when they come into the lab. They are not written in, instead handouts are still photocopied.
  • Absent Students: The teacher only photocopies a workbook assignment for a student who has been absent.
  • Multiple Steps: The teacher only photocopies a workbook assignment if the lesson has many steps and they worry their students may have difficulty.
  • Substitute Teacher: The teacher only photocopies a workbook assignment if they are going to be away and a substitute teacher is coming in to teach the class.

Instructional Methods and Student Workbooks

If you decide to use student workbooks below are a few suggestions:

  • Begin using the workbook by doing an assignment together while students follow along in their book.
  • Explain to students the parts of the workbook. For example, in each assignment, headings introduce the step, mouse bullets explain how to complete an action, a dash is background information and does not require student action, and bold text are words that should be typed.
  • After students are confident with using the workbook begin each class by introducing the assignment and explaining the purpose. Discuss the steps to the assignment. Have students work independently to complete the task following steps outlined in their workbook. Offer support and suggestions.
