To learn how current events affect stock values, students read the Daily Trader, included in the resources. In each of the four issues, they read news about the six companies.
If the story is good news for the company, the stock price rises. If there is bad news, the stock price falls. For example, when Pizza Planet is the source of food poisoning, the stock value falls. When new toppings are added to the menu, the stock value rises.

After reading issues of the Daily Trader to make informed decisions about their trades, investment groups complete two more trading sessions. Each time, stock holdings are updated in the Investment Portfolio template. Students learn to calculate the total portfolio value and find out whether their initial investment is growing or decreasing. |
