Movie Maker Lesson Plans

TechnoProducer Icon Lights! Camera! Action! Produce a movie using Movie Maker. Follow the instructions to plan, film and edit a video that includes effects, transitions, text overlays, sound clips, and narration.

Part 1 Windows Movie Maker

Teach your students to produce a video using the easy to follow Movie Maker lesson plans in TechnoProducer. To start, students analyze sample movies, provided with the project, to notice the content and production techniques. A sample video produced with Windows Movie Maker.
Watch Video

To prepare for the creation of their own video production, students learn how to use the video editing software Windows Movie Maker. Students import raw video footage, provided with the project, to practice how to add video effects, apply transitions, and insert text overlays.

Part 2 On the Set

Once your students are familiar with Windows Movie Maker, they begin to plan the creation of their own video production. To start, students form teams. Together, the video production team, must decide on a plot for their movie. They use a storyboard, provided with the project, to organize their ideas. Afterwards, students capture the action sequences using basic video recording equipment, such as a web cam.

Helpful movie making tips and hints are given throughout the Movie Maker lesson plans:

  • story and plot suggestions
  • roles for each team member
  • puppets as replacements for actors
  • background and lighting ideas
  • what to do with limited video equipment
  • parent letter requesting props, clothing, and music

CAMP CATEGORY

Learning Objectives
  • plan a storyboard by sketching each scene
  • work cooperatively in a production team
  • use a camera to capture a variety of action shots
  • identify basic parts of Windows Movie Maker
  • isolate a frame by clicking and dragging the play head
  • split a clip into two pieces and delete frames
  • edit clips to add transitions, effects, and text overlays
  • add a title clip and a credit clip
  • narrate action sequences and add sound track
  • save a project as a Windows Media Player file

Part 3 In the Editing Room

Next, students become video editors. Detailed Movie Maker lesson plans show how to split scenes to delete unwanted portions of a video clip. Afterwards, students apply their knowledge and new skills to add effects, transitions, and text.

Part 4 Opening Night

Finally, the student “producers” put the finishing touches on their movie. They learn how to add narration to explain each exciting event. They can also add music or sounds from the provided Sound Clips file in the TechnoProducer Resources.

Once the editing is complete, the Movie Maker lesson plans explain how to export the video. This will allow the movie to be converted and viewed using Windows Media Player.

The video is then shared with fellow students on “Opening Night”. Suggestions for this spectacular event include:

  • Carousel: Rotate around the computer lab.
  • Gallery Walk: View each movie randomly.
  • Go to the Movies: Watch together on a large screen.
Get your popcorn and enjoy!
